How to live a dutch lifestyle (IE be thrifty)?

Many people just don't understand how get good value out of just normal day to day activities. Thus spending more than one really would need to. The majority of the world is in debt - so how can we make better financial decisions? WELL, This is my speciality due to my Dutch heritage. I'm the guy that squeezes the booger out of the nose of George Washington (on the quarter not in real life... that'd be nasty).

- Split a dinner - you always have leftovers anyways. If you think you like the leftovers, you could be splitting a dish and going out to dinner TWICE.
- Buy from places that give you something back. Somebody makes money when you buy something... why not make part of that yours? Whether it be a coffee card or a 6 figure income... it sure beats NOTHING.
- Don't go to college if you don't know what you want to do. $10,000-$40,000/yr is WAY too much money to major in "I don't know".
- If you can't afford it... don't get it. A credit card is used so you can get cool rewards for free... not to get in debt over. Don't get into debt over consumer purchases... (this includes video games, CDs, DVDs, TVs, clothes, bling, etc). I learned this the hard way... Chicks do not dig debt!
- If your job isn't stable (The question to ask yourself if your job is stable or not is "Do I have a job?". If yes, it's not stable.) Don't buy something that will give you payments down the road. Things like THIS could happen.

All this thrifty talk and such... sounds boring. But here's the catch - your decisions today effect your tomorrow. If you want to live a wealthy, stress free lifestyle you need to have delayed gratification during the process of building up to that. I recommend building a business - it gives you control, ability to choose your income, security, and more decisions. Then you can have all the money you would need to give to the people you want to give to... and buy the STUPID stuff that everybody wants. (CAN'T WAIT!! My house is going to be SWEEEEEEET!!!!!)

Well, here is a great check up sheet - you ARE broke if...
... American Express calls and says, "Leave home without it!"
... You think of a lottery ticket as an investment.
... McDonald's supplies you with all your kitchen condiments.
... You're in college.
... You owe yourself money.
... Gas prices cause you to lose sleep.
... Your piggy bank looks like this.
... You've ever taken out a loan to pay another loan.
... You spend more than you earn.
... You think that you will retire without a specific gameplan to do so.
... You are upside-down on anything.
... You prioritize keeping up with the Jones'.
... You don't pay off your credit cards every month.
... Next weeks paycheck is already spent.
... You think that money is the root of all evil.
... "90 Days Same as Cash" gets your wheels spinning.
... Your student loans could buy a house.
... Paying cash is a foreign concept.
... Gas mileage is you biggest concern when picking out a car.
... You think your house mortgage is an investment.
... You buy something thinking "I'll make enough money to pay for that later"
... You've read any of these lines and thought, "whats the big deal with that...".
