Word(s): Gongoozler

What it sounds like: "G" is a what people that generally like each other call each other in "ebonics". As in "What's up, G?!" "Ong" is like for Pong (ie Ping Pong)... It's just how a "G" says it. Oozler is rather obvious to anybody who has seen TMNT 2. It's a baby turtle in the OOZE (lil' baber oozler...). So this is the obvious progression of what a GONGOOZLER is.

What it really is: a person who enjoys watching activity on the canals in the United Kingdom. The term is also often used in a more general way to describe those who have an interest in canals and the canal life, but do not actively participate.

Nur refers to a nerd... adding the prefix we have a mullet nerd. What do nerds have the biggest problem with these days? Well, that obvious with bullies picking on them. If one becomes less nerdy, people will stop picking on you so much. So, this is actually a secret support group to help nerds with mullets WAX IT OFF (Waxitov). I know I'm thankful for these guys!

What it sounds like: The first part of this word "Eleu" is a more seductive way of saying "Hello" usually using a sexy pose. This is modeled by this beautiful brunette. A Therodactyl is actually a terradactyl with a extreme lisp. The bird ith thtill thuper! "Us" just shows that it is implying to the seductress and the lisp bird. Word(s): Quercus tomentella

What it sounds like: Quercus is very similar to a circus but only has things that start with "Qu" in them. For example... Queen, Quarterbacks, Quacks, ETC. At this circus there is an Ent named Tom who they can't figure out his/her gender (that's why they put both an "El" and "La" at the end of it. He is a great attraction for the circus though, so they keep Tom around hoping someday to change it to "TomEntEl" or probably change the name completely to like... "BerthaEntLa"

Word(s): Electroencephalogram

What it sounds like: First of all, (belated by a day) birthday wishes to RK... one of the top JINCd.net supporters. Now on to the special wiki of this week! We do know this word is masculine and spanish because its starts with "El". Kinda like El Nino. The we have "Ectro" is referring to a man named Hector. His parents didn't speak very well though, so he grew up actually thinking his name was Ectro. Sad story really. The encep is a muscle between the bicep and tricep. "Ha" is obvioulsy a laugh. And then a log ram which would be someone ramming things with logs. (It's big in Scotland, actually). As we put this all together we find out that Electroencephalogram implies our jolly Spanish friend Hector who enjoying throwing logs at stuff. Pretty typical for a guy actually... I can't really blame Hector, could you?

What it really is: (EEG) is the measurement of electrical activity produced by the brain as recorded from electrodes placed on the scalp.

Word(s): Haplochromis desfontainii

What it sounds like: This word came from a slightly enraged fan in an effort to rekickstart the WOTW program. Since this word is huge, nasty, and I don't know what the poo it means - we will have to do lots of research.
Hap is what comes out when a heavy accented lady yells out for "HELP" ... it just comes out "HAP!". Loch Romis is referring to the lesser known brother of Loch Ness. He lives in a different area and since he blends in with his surrondings so well...nobody thinks he is a real monster. Des Fontain (the fountain ... again excuse the heavy accent) is the current location of the Loch Romis monster. The two "i"s is actually a sad story. This lady was TRYING to say "Aye yi yi" (sounds like 3 i's in a row) but sadly got eaten in the middle of it.
So, the actually meaning is, "HELP! Loch Romis (is at) the fountain!!! Ayi-yi..." The Loch Romis goes NOM NOM NOM!

What it really is: a species of fish in the Cichlidae family. It is found in Algeria and Tunisia. Its natural habitats are freshwater spring, irrigated land, and canals and ditches.

Word(s): Buttahatchee River

What it sounds like: As we all know, Indians named all the rivers. You have the Grand River which was named because it was a Grand River (pre the scary era when we dumped ninja turtle ooze into it), the river that they named after not being able to land a shot on a grateful dead piece activist, Mississippi (Miss-a-Hippie) River.
But (ha) as for this river roots its pretty easy to figure out. A "butt" ... lets be mature here - we all have one. Unless we've "laughed our 'butts' off" before. But what about the hatch? Well, thinking back to my younger days of watching cartoons it dawned upon me. What is a butt hatch you ask? It's kinda tough to explain, so I will have to show you... click here (note: rated PG). This could go many directions from here... however I shall take the high road and let you know that the reason for the name is because where the river starts it has a waterfall flowing out of a stone shaped like a ... Butt Hatch. The "EE" is the noise the natives where making jumping off it it when the explorers discovered the river.

What it really is: a tributary of the Tombigbee River, about 75 miles (121 km) long, in northwestern Alabama and northeastern Mississippi in the United States. Via the Tombigbee River, it is part of the watershed of the Mobile River, which flows to the Gulf of Mexico.

Word(s): Gnathorhizidae

What it sounds like: When a words starts with a "G" its basically there for the same reason a girl wears jewelry... It just looks cool. So we will obviously ignore the word bling and get onto something of substance. Nathor is actually a nickname I had in high school (because my name is Nate and I have a body similar to the Superhero Thor). Yeah, I still kinda do.. its true. Anyways, a "Hizi" is ghetto language for a house. As in, "Come to my hizi ... its the shizi nizi". Don't ask me what the rest of that phrase means though... This lady could probably help, she did wonders with Steve in the movie. Dae is the county that this "hizi" (aka house) resides in. So, the word just Ebonics for my address at my house in Dae!

What it really is: an extinct family of lungfish that lived from the late Carboniferous until the middle Triassic. They are characterized by high-ridged toothplates that form cutting blades and a reduction in cranial bones.

Word(s): Parnassius nordmanni

What it sounds like: This word comes from Christopher and it really boggled my mind. But after many nights in the library (that I never used for school... but when something important like wiki of the week comes up... you have to do what you have to do) I came up with a proper conclusion.
"Parn" is a nickname... short for some long name. "Ass" means... err... must actually be "Assi". But that actually was a pretty tricky one because they don't want you to understand it. You must read it backwards, "is a" (with an extra "s" for effect). Then we have "us". So... this PERSON - IS A - US meaning he is referred to as a person, but is actually a group of people. (I know... conspiracy theory)
I know this is going long... but stick with me here - this is where all will be revealed! "Nord" would have mean nordic which would be a person that came from the northern hemisphere. The rest is explaining that he is a "man" that says "ni". (Nord-man-ni)
In conclusion...these words merely refer to our good friends that love a shrubbery, wear funny clothes, and scream weird made up words at each other instead of actually getting things done... Congress!

What it really is: a high altitude butterfly which is found the Caucasus. It is a member of the Snow Apollo genus Parnassius of the Swallowtail (Papilionidae) family.

Word(s): Grossglockner Races

What it sounds like: Races refer to a certain group of people. Its also the reason our beloved Beaner's coffee shops got their name changed to something stupid like Biggby. Apparently a specific race of beans was offended by the name or something. I'm rather surprized they haven't been attacked by a bunch of offended and ticked off killers "B"s. But anyways, the Grossglockner race are people with guns for hands. That's where our word "Glock" came from. Gross...ner was really just filler to make them sound big and bad (which they were).

What it really is: The Grossglockner Automobile and Motorcycle Races took place in 1935, 1938 and 1939 on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Austria, county Salzburg.

Word(s): White anting

What it sounds like: Anytime you have a noun that just gets a random "-ing" thrown at the end you have to find out what it is that the noun does most of and it will mean that. See once there was just one type of ant... the speckled periwinkle ant. Herbie the ant was a mad scientist (he was the actual mastermind behind The Hulk, Flubber, and Q-tips). Well, you see he had an experiment go wrong. He was trying to create a serum to cure antpox and took it himself. It ended up turning him white which also made his vertical leap almost non-existent. So white anting is the same as mad scientisting.

What it really is: an Australian term for the process of internal erosion of a foundation. It is often used in reference to groups such as political parties or organisations where information from group insiders is 'leaked' or used to undermine the goals of the group. The Macquarie Dictionary says the verb "to white-ant" means "to subvert or undermine from within".

Word(s): Papilio dravidarum

What it sounds like: Yet another group of words that I can't pronounce... We are going to have to break this one down again. Pap is short for the greek word Pappy meaning Father. Ilio means Dog in Hawaii dialect (I even looked it up - Google : Ilio means). Dr is obviously for a doctor. Avid means excited about something and "A Rum" must be referring some well... a non promoted alcoholic beverage. You add these up and sounds like you have a Medical father dog that is really excited about alcohol. Where would we be without these guys?!

What it really is: The Malabar Raven ( Papilio dravidarum) is a species of Swallowtail butterfly found in the Western Ghats of India.

Word(s): Lao Pie-fang

Who he sounds like: Lao Pie-fang was a great warrior for ancient Japanese clan "Kyobashi". His true name was Joe Smith, but got his nickname for winning many pie eating contests due to his fang like tongue. He used it to devour his opponents (well, not his opponents directly... he ate the pie to beat them). The Japan region expanded to even beyond this galaxy due to his special talents.

Who he really is: known as Hun-hutze (red beard), was a bandit chieftain in western Liaoning. He led several thousand followers to attack Japanese garrisons the southern portion of the South Manchurian Railroad mainline in early 1932, during the pacification of Manchukuo. (I think mine was less confusing, really...)

Word(s): Metrosideros fulgens

What is sounds like: Well, lets break the word down... "Metro" is usually a train that drives around in a larger city. "Side" is a measurement used for beef (IE "Side of Beef") implying half of the cow. "R" is the letter that pirates say all the time. "OS" refers to a computer's operating system. Thus Metrosideros obviously refers to a pirate controlling a train full of beef with his computer. "Fulgens" sounds like a place in Norway or something which is probably our peg legged friend's destination.

What it really is: a forest liane or vine endemic to New Zealand.

Word(s): Exapion ulicis

What is sounds like: Quite frankly, I think it sounds like some sort of wacky Harry Potter spell. Like expanding the thingie in the back of your mouth (uvula).

What it really is: a species of straight-snouted weevil known by the general common name gorse seed weevil. It is used as an agent of biological pest control against the noxious weed known as common gorse. As many of you have gorse problems you can now just get weevils to compensate. WEEVIL... ha...

Word(s): Spaghettification

What is sounds like: It sounds like a little kid got into the Chief Boyardee and launched it over the entire room including family. I don't think many pictures describe by thoughts on the matter more than this one.

What it really is: the stretching of objects into long thin shapes (rather like spaghetti) in a very strong gravity field, and is caused by extreme tidal forces. In the most extreme cases, near black holes, the stretching is so powerful that no object can withstand it, no matter how strong its components are.
